A Simple Easter Reflection
When something is difficult, I often want to rush through it to get to the other side. A tough class, a challenging physical goal, a disappointing season… it can be hard to sit in the weight of a heavy moment.
While working through this year’s Lent Bible study, I realized I can sometimes do this when I think of Jesus’ journey to the cross.
The study was filled with beautiful, powerful, and challenging illustrations of Jesus’ life, ministry, death, and resurrection. As a visual learner, this art deeply impacted me as I moved through the study. At times, I found these illustrations difficult to look at as they detailed the excruciating journey to the cross.
His face, His suffering, His death.
It tore at my heart completely. And still, it was exactly what I needed to see.
It can be difficult to walk through the brutal nature of Jesus’ death and crucifixion. But if we rush through Good Friday or take the journey to the cross for granted, will we also take His sacrifice and the restoration He provides for granted?
There is hope, salvation, and freedom on the other side of Good Friday and His death. And yet this day is a time for mourning, deep reverence, and remembrance of our Savior’s sacrificial love. My sadness, gratitude, and even my discomfort can be an offering to Him for all He has done.
I want to allow myself to dwell on these details of the crucifixion to recenter my heart and to remember how deep His love is for us as He considered each one of us while on the cross.
I want to allow these details to impact my life each day and not just during Holy Week.
It is heavy, but this story ends in victory.
Thank You, Jesus.
