Conviction Amongst Confusion

When The Destination Creates Your Map

Written By: Jenna Gierszewski

Finding your purpose can feel like being stuck on a hamster wheel—running, rushing, pouring out energy, yet never arriving where you long to be. You work hard, you push forward, and still find yourself asking, “How can I be doing so much yet getting no where fast?”

God designed you intentionally and purposefully. His plan for your life is far greater than anything you could create or imagine on your own.

Psalm 139:13–14 “For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”

Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

I graduated college in 2017 with a degree in Social Work and a heart to help people walking through difficult seasons. Over the next nine years, I worked six different jobs—searching for purpose, searching for direction, searching for a career “home.” I worked with children with cognitive and physical disabilities, supported individuals experiencing homelessness, assisted first responders, and eventually moved into Human Resources for a large company.

In 2018, I had my first baby. I returned to work just seven weeks postpartum, balancing a full‑time job with a newborn who never slept. When he was eight months old, we hired a sleep consultant to help us understand his sleep struggles. After working with her, I felt a strong pull to become certified myself—to give other families the same relief we experienced. For six years, that desire sat quietly inside me. I lived in the space of “I wish I could” and “maybe someday.”

By 2023 and 2024, I hit a low point. I felt lost. Life was moving fast, but going nowhere. I was exhausted, anxious, trying to find refuge in jobs or circumstances. In 2024, I gave my life to Christ, and that same year He opened the door to become a Pediatric Sleep Consultant. I knew instantly that the “urge” I had felt for years was a conviction from God and I needed to walk through the door He opened.

All those years of bouncing from job to job, feeling unfulfilled, were not wasted time—they were preparation. Through my son’s sleep challenges, through every job experience, through every moment of anxiety and confusion, God was shaping me to steward what He planned.

Proverbs 3:5–6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”

Through motherhood, my Social Work education, the multiple job experiences, and the heart He gave me to serve, God was preparing me to steward these gifts for His will.

1 Peter 4:10 “As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace.”

You’re tired. You feel defeated. You’re trying to make things happen on your own, but nothing is moving. I understand—I was there too. But I encourage you to stop relying on your own strength and turn to the One who moves mountains and parts waters. Our human strength is limited, but His is limitless. Give Him what you cannot carry.

Proverbs 16:3 reminds us to commit whatever we do to the Lord, and He will establish our plans. When we surrender our struggles, desires, worries, and hopes to Him, He leads us onto the path He prepared long before we ever knew it existed.

When I finally did that, everything made sense. My path became clear. I realized I wasn’t searching for refuge in a career—I was searching for the “home” I found in Jesus. And once I found Him, the destination became the roadmap.
